JAMMU, June 15: Vice-Chancellor (VC), SKUAST-Jammu, Dr J P Sharma today convened a meeting of all statutory officers of the University to take an overview of academic, research and extension programmes of the University.
Rajesh Talwar, Registrar & Comptroller, Dr RK Gupta, Director Research, Dr SK Gupta, Director Education, Dr SK Gupta, Director Extension and University Librarian, Dr DP Abrol, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr SHE Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences and Iqbal Singh, Estates Officer attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the newly appointed VC discussed the status of infrastructural availability and future requirements to address the constraints faced by the University. He discussed his vision for making SKUAST-Jammu one of the top ranked agricultural universities in the country and requested officers to work in this direction.
Dr Sharma laid emphasis on need-based research focused on diversification and from production to profitability. He stressed that processing and value addition will mitigate the food losses and enhance farm income. He said for this farmer producer organizations (FPOs) should be promoted.
“There is need to document farmer led innovations for up scaling and develop strategy to replicate such cases to substantially enhance the income of farmer. Recognition to the Innovative farmer during University Kisan Mela will help in this direction,” he added.
The VC said that capacity building in use ICT to inculcate digital culture, student exchange programme with reputed institutions and linkage with industries should be promoted. Entrepreneurial skills of our graduates need to be developed so that they become job creators rather than job seekers, he emphasized.
