UT level Silambam C’ship commences

JAMMU, Nov 11: Two-day UT level Silambam Championship commenced here today in which players from across the Union Territory participated.
On the occasion, Hari Singh Chib, president DCC Jammu Rural was the chief guest, while Uday Bhanu Chib, president J&K Pradesh Youth Congress and Som Nath Ex Sarpanch and Block president Patta Paloura were the guests of honour.
The two-day championship was organized by Silambam Association of Jammu and Kashmir in which about 450 players from Jammu, Anantnag, Pulwama, Srinagar, Reasi, Kulgam, Doda, Kathua, Samba and Poonch are taking part in the event. This championship is being held at Sacred Heart College College, Paloura which will conclude on November 13.
Hari Singh Chib said that there is dire need to promote sports activities not only for a healthy citizenry but more than that to divert the youth from the path of indulging in drug related activities.
Uday Chib said adequate sports infrastructure needs to be made available across the length and breadth of the Jammu and Kashmir by the administration in order to ensure that youth overwhelmingly participate in sports activities.
Som Nath said that today youth excelling in the field of sports can also adopt Silambam as a lucrative career.
