UT Ladakh student gets 3rd position at National Kala Utsav

LEH, Jan 18: Tsering Kunsal, representing Union territory of Ladakh, got 3rd position at National Kala Utsav-2021, which was held through live streaming because of Covid-19 third wave.
National Kala Utsav received as many as 591 entries from different parts of the country out of which 582 students performed through 84 centres setup across the country from 1st to 12th January 2022.
The 11 finalist students from UT Ladakh showcased their performances through dedicated studio setup at “DIET Leh on six art forms which included Vocal Music- traditional Folk, Instrumental Music- traditional Folk, Dance- Folk, Visual Arts (2-D), Visual Arts (3-D) and Indigenous toys and games.
Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School Leh student Tsering Kunsal who played Kopong, a fretless Ladakhi traditional guitar with six strings, was judged as third position holder of the National event.
Kala Utsav is an initiative of Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, launched in 2015, to promote Arts in Education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students (Secondary level) in the country. The Kala Utsav platform not only provides an opportunity to showcase the hidden talents of the students but also provides a platform for explore, exchange and experience the rich and diverse culture of India.
The Valedictory Function cum Prize distribution ceremony of Kala Utsav 2021 was held today through live streaming in the presence of Annpurna Devi, Minister of State, Ministry of Education, GoI; Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State, Ministry of Education, GoI; L S Changsen, Joint Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, GoI; Prof Sridhar Srivastav, Director NCERT; Major Harsh Kumar, Secretary NCERT; Prof Amrendra Behra, Joint Secretary CIET and Prof Pawan Sudhir, National Coordinator, KALA Utsav-2021.
