Two women among 5 die of COVID in Jammu, two in Kashmir; 771 new cases

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Feb 8: Seven persons died and 771 tested positive for COVID-19 today in Jammu and Kashmir while the Union Territory of Ladakh also showed decline in fresh cases recording only 50 positives.
Five casualties, two of them women, and 408 cases were reported in Jammu division while two fatalities and 363 cases were recorded in the Kashmir valley.
Two deaths were registered in Kathua district and one each in Samba, Doda and Jammu districts.
A 40-year-old woman hailing from Baggar in Doda district, who was unvaccinated but co-morbid, died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. An 89-year-old man from Janipura in Jammu district, who had sustained head injuries during fall, succumbed to the wounds. He tested positive during treatment and was fully vaccinated.
A 75-year-old woman from village Gurha Slathia in Samba district died of ailments and pathogen in the GMC Jammu. She too was fully vaccinated.
An unvaccinated 78-year-old man from village Chadwal in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district, succumbed to co-morbidities and Coronavirus at Dr PSP Memorial Janta Hospital in Amritsar while 65-year-old fully vaccinated co-morbid man hailing from Billawar in Kathua died of ailments and virus at the GMC Jammu.
Five casualties have taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 2316 including 1219 in Jammu district followed by 248 in Rajouri, 164 Kathua, 146 Udhampur, 144 Doda, 124 Samba, 109 Poonch, 69 Ramban, 48 Reasi and 45 in Kishtwar district.
Among 408 fresh COVID positive cases, 238 were reported from Jammu district, 58 Doda, 36 Ramban, 20 Udhampur, 18 each Rajouri and Kathua, seven Reasi, five Samba and four each in Kishtwar and Poonch districts.
Three persons tested positive for pathogen at Civil Secretariat and two at Narwal Sabzi Mandi in Jammu.
As against 408 new cases, 1297 persons recovered from the virus leaving number of active positive cases to 4074.
Jammu region now has 1,62,998 Corona cases. Among them, 1,56,608 have recovered from the virus while there were 2316 fatalities.
Out of 4074 active positive cases, the highest 1822 are in Jammu district, 902 in Doda, 277 Ramban, 240 Kathua, 168 Samba, 165 Poonch, 152 Reasi, 134 Kishtwar, 119 Udhampur and 95 in Rajouri district.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 50 new Corona positive cases including 30 in Leh district and 20 in Kargil.
Ladakh now has 882 active positive cases—543 in Leh and 339 in Kargil.
Corona count in Ladakh has gone up to 26992. Of them, 25884 have been treated while there were 226 deaths—167 in Leh and 59 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 363 fresh cases of COVID-19 as the infection has started ebbing and two persons who were undergoing treatment died.
With fresh deaths, the J&K toll has reached 4,728.
Those who tested positive include 172 from Srinagar, 22 from Baramulla, 62 from Budgam, 12 from Pulwama, 20 from Kupwara, 24 from Anantnag, 04 from Bandipora, 28 from Ganderbal, 16 from Kulgam and 3 Shopian.
As per officials figures, 101,335 positive cases including 904 deaths and 96,872 recoveries are from Srinagar, 37,382 including 303 deaths and 35,475 recoveries are from Baramulla, 34,575 including 33,836 recoveries and 234 deaths are from Budgam, 18,345 including 17,905 recoveries and 201 deaths are from Pulwama, 21,472 including 172 deaths and 20,709 recoveries are from Kupwara, 22,338 including 21,444 recoveries and 218 deaths are from Anantnag, 13,590 cases including 13,197 and 118 deaths are from Bandipora, 13,546 including 13,162 recoveries and 84 deaths are from Ganderbal, 16,245 including 15,762 recoveries and 118 deaths are from Kulgam and 6,279 including 6,049 recoveries and 60 deaths are from Shopian.
With the fresh cases the number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 285,107 including 274,411 recoveries and 2,412.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 12,358 including 8,284 from Kashmir division.
With 3,330 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 431,019 which is 96.19 percent of the total cases.
