Two inter-state narco smugglers held with heroin worth Rs 1.5 lakh

JAMMU, Jan 19: Police nabbed two inter-state narcotic smugglers along with 12.5 grams of heroin worth over Rs 1.87 lakh from Kunjwani area, falling under the jurisdiction of Gangyal police station.
As per police sources, on specific information about smuggling of narcotic substances, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka at Kunjwani and signaled an Alto car bearing registration number JK06-6334 to stop for checking.
On seeing police party, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 12.5 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.87 lakh from the two occupants and arrested them.
The accused have been identified as Rumim Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Malik Market and Altaf Hussain, son of Anwar Hussain, a resident of Bhatindi.
During investigation, it came to fore that Rameem Malik is a habitual smuggler of heroin and keeps on changing his hideouts inside and outside Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused used to bring the consignments from Punjab and Damtaal area of Himachal Pradesh and sell it among the youths residing in Bhatindi, Sunjwan and Sainik Colony areas for Rs 12000 to 15000 per gram.
Earlier, the heroin used to be sold in the State for Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000, but as the police has tightened the nose on the smugglers, they have started selling it to the youths for Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per gram, if they succeed in bringing the narcotics in the State.
More arrests and recoveries are likely to be made in the near future.
A case under FIR Number 7/16 under Section 8/20 narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Gangyal police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal police station Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Shaazad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
