Troops kill 4 militants in Boniyar, one in Pulwama

SRINAGAR, Oct 18: Four militants were killed in an encounter with Army in upper reaches of forests of Boniyar in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
Sources said that a search party of Army’s 5 Grenadier intercepted a group of militants at Torna post in the forests of Boniyar this morning.
The militants after intercepted by the Army opened fire triggering a gunfight which culminated in the killing of four militants. Sources said that additional reinforcements of the Army has been sent to the area.
An Army spokesman said that troops launched operation in the forests of Boniyar today. However, no further details were shared by the Army.
And a newly-recruited militant was killed in a brief shootout at a village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district late last night.
Police said that a joint team of Army’s 50 RR and SOG personnel had set up a Nakka at Dougam Kakapora following inputs about the presence of militants at 11:30 pm.
The gunfight broke out after the security forces challenged the movement of the militants. One militant was killed in a brief shoot out. He was identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Padgampora, Awantipora. Bhat had joined militancy on October 2 and was associated with Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen.
Police said that Bhat was wanted in yesterday’s grenade attack in Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district that left three cops, including an officer, wounded.
And seven Army personnel were injured as an Army Casper of 55 RR came under led attack at Trichal bridge on Pulwama-Lassipora Road in Pulwama district tonight.
The IED was planted by militants near the bridge and was detonated in which seven Army personnel were injured. They have been removed to hospital. Troops were rushed to the area and an operation was launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
And in the meantime, clashes broke out in parts of this capital city as a shutdown called by separatists against the Fateh Kadal killings disrupted life in Srinagar and other majors towns of the Valley today.
Shops, offices, educational institutes remained closed today in Srinagar while the movement of transport was also affected due to the strike called by separatists.
CRPF troopers and police were deployed in strength in parts of downtown, where massive protests broke out after the killing of two Lashkar militants and a civilian in an encounter yesterday.
Authorities imposed restrictions in the areas following under the Police Stations of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj. Despite heightened security, groups of youth appeared on roads and clashed with the security forces at Rainawari, Khanyar, Zaldagar, Soura and Noorbagh. They pelted stones on the security forces triggering clashes. Security forces fired several teargas to disperse the stone pelting protesters. The ding-dong clashes continued for several hours leaving at least three people injured.
Unidentified persons tonight set ablaze a Common Facility Centre in Brakpora village of Anantnag district. The Centre is adjacent to the Panchayat Ghar. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and fire was put off but not before damaging the building.
