Tributes paid to martyrs, Vijay Mashal reaches Rajouri

JAMMU, June 4: Indian Army is commemorating 50 years of 1971 war as “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” and in this connection `Vijay Mashal’ flagged off by the Prime Minister Modi from New Delhi today reached Rajouri.
While preparing for `Swarnim Vijay Varsh’, the Territoral Army unit of Romeo Force came across a tomb of 1971 war hero in Mankot area of Mendhar. The tomb is of Maj Mahmood Hasan Khan, of 14 Grenadiers, who was martyred in 1971 war and was awarded Vir Chakra posthumously.
It is pertinent to mention here that the tomb of this brave soldier was a forgotten chapter which has have been revived by the Territorial Army located at Mankote.
Romeo Force has played a pivotal role in fighting terrorism in the districts of Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi since year 1999. It’s relentless anti- terror efforts have ushered in stability peace and prosperity in the area.
As a mark of respect, a solemn wreath laying ceremony was organized at tomb of Major MH Khan, for felicitating the fallen war hero of 1971. Territorial Army battalion along with local Rashtriya Rifles unit under Romeo Force paid homage to the gallant soldier who made the supreme sacrifice for his motherland. A two- minute silence was observed by the gathering as a tribute to the martyr.
Meanwhile, in order to pay homage to Indian Army war veterans, martyrs and also to those who fought alongside Indian Army in 1971, a victory flame is being carried in all cardinal directions in the country.
Victory flame is currently in the area of Counter Insurgency Force wherein it was received at Muradpur Bridge by Commanding Officer, Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Samote in district Rajouri.
`Swarnim Vijay Mashal’ made its journey through Mandir Gala, Kandi and Kotranka to Samote. The `Victory Flame’ was welcomed by the children enroute. As an epilogue to this mega celebratory event, Victory Flame was received in the War Memorial at Samote where wreath laying was laid as a tribute to the gallant soldiers of Indian Army who made supreme sacrifice serving the nation in historic war of 1971.
