Tributes paid to KL Saigal on 110th birth anniversary

JAMMU, Apr 11: Nirvana Academy organized a musical programme in memory of legendry singer Kundan Lal Saigal on his 110th birth anniversary at Aarohi Kala Sangeet Vidhalya. In a musical programme children and artists sung popular songs and bhajans of KL Saigal.
Meenakshi Sharma, general secretary Nirvana Academy threw light on the life of KL Saigal. Saigal was born at Jammu on April 11, 1904. In a carrier of fifteen years Saigal sang 185 songs which included 142 filmi and 43 non filmi songs, she added.
Meenakshi said that Saigal’s distinctive singing voice was idolized by the first generation of post independence Hindi play back singers including Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore Kumar. Saigal was also known as first Indian bollywood Singer and filmstar.
Kuldeep Kumar a noted singer and students of Aarohi Kala Sangeet Vidhalya presented popular songs of KL Saigal like “jab dil hi toot gaya”, “tere dwaare khada bhagwan”, which were highly applauded by the audience.
Hitesh Badyal, president, Nirvana Academy told that from last three years, Nirvana Academy is organizing musical programmes to pay tribute to legendry singers of the state and national eminence. Club shall promote the music of KL Saigal among the young generation and also organized more programmes to promote the legacy of son of soil KL Saigal, he added.
Among others present were Neeraj Sharma, Nishant Vaid, Amit Sharma, Shammi, Ashutosh, Shaveta Sharma, etc.
