SRINAGAR : Train service in the Kashmir valley remained suspended for the second day today, as separatist organisations have extended strike for two more days against the killings of civilians in security force firing during demonstrations yesterday.
The separatists had called for a general strike yesterday in protest against the killing of top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Anantnag Friday evening.
Burhan Wani, most wanted commander of HM, carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakhs and two other militants were killed by security forces in Kokernag area in south Kashmir, evoking massive spontaneous protests in the valley.
All trainsrun between Srinagar-Badgm- Baramulla in north Kashmir and Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu regions remained suspended for security reasons for the second day today.
As there was apprehension of trouble during the strike, rail service has been suspended, a railway official said.
He said in the past protestors attackeded and damaged railway property, including trains causing massive loss. There was also risk to passengers so the trains have been suspended today, he added.
Resumption of rail service tomorrow will depend upon the overall situation in the valley, he said. (AGENCIES)
