Traffic disruption continues on NH

RAMBAN, Oct 12: The movement of vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained disrupted due to frequent landslides and shooting stones at Mehar near Ramban even on the third consecutive day today.
The traffic on the highway was restored after disruption of 22 hours on Friday afternoon. But since morning, the highway at Mehar has become trouble-prone due to continued falling of boulders and shooting stones. The road was cleared several times by the NH authorities and blocked again and again, causing frequent disruptions during the whole day.
Official sources said that a large number of vehicles remained stranded during the day and massive traffic jam in Chenani, Nashri-Peerha, Chanderkote and Ramban area was witnessed through out the day. The Army convoy moving from Srinagar to Udhampur also remained stranded for over 3-4 hours at Ramban. It was, however, cleared in the evening.
The people are badly suffering due to unplanned and unsafe cutting of the mountains by a local construction company (CPP) to whom Gammon India Ltd has recently sublet the task from Nashri to Ramban, the sources said.
The road near Ramban was blocked at around 5 pm on Thursday when the road widening work for the 4-laning of the highway was in progress. There was no rain in the area. Suddenly about 100 meters stretch of the road was affected with the land sliding.
