Srinagar, Aug 24: At least twenty people were injured today after police used force to foil a protest demonstration of traders and transporters that was called against the shifting of General Bus Stand Batamaloo to Parimpora on city outskirts here.
The protesters had gathered for a sit-in at the General Bus Stand Batamaloo. As soon as they started their march towards the main Batamaloo road, police swung into action and used batons to disperse them, eyewitnesses said.
They said at least 20 protesters were injured in the police action. The Batamaloo area surrounding the bus stand observed a shutdown as shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in protest against the shifting of the Bus Stand.
