JAMMU, May 10: Expressing strong resentment over the death of a tourist from Chennai in Kashmir due to stone pelting, India’s top intellectuals today asked J&K Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, to stop releasing stone pelters and hang them in public, giving them Saudi Arabia kind of punishment.
A number of top intellectuals including former Solicitor General of India Mohan Parasaran, retired Associate Prof, Sri Ram College, Kasturi Kanthan, Ex-IIM & UNICEF Executive, Thirumati Geetha Athreya, RSS veteran leader, J Nanda Jumar, Delhi Tamil Sangam leader, Bala Subramanyam, Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch leaders, Ravinder Pandita and Sanjay Ganjoo, today gathered at India International Centre, New Delhi, discussed the issue of stone pelting on tourists in Kashmir which took the life of a tourist from Chennai namely Thiru R Thirumani, few days back.
The meeting was organized by senior BJP leader and former MP, Tarun Vijay. During the meeting, the speakers warned Mehbooba Mufti Government to stop releasing stone pelters. “Give stone pelters same punishment as Saudi Arabia gives to such criminals; hang them mercilessly in public to stop recurrence of such incidents”, said Mohan Parasaran while speaking on the occasion.
The speakers demanded stern action against culprits and said that J&K Government must hang them to death. “We shall not rest till the culprits are punished”, they warned Mehbooba Government, adding, no more leniency should be shown to stone pelters as they are anti-nationals and have no place in India.
J Nanda Kumar said that media eulogized slain terrorist Mohd Rafi Bhat and pages were flooded with the stories hailing him as a pious college professor. He questioned why the same media was tightlipped when the innocent Indian youth Thirumani from Tamil Nadu was brutally stoned to death as if he died in an accident.
Earlier, at the outset of the meeting, all the intellectuals observe two-minute silence to pay homage to Thiru R Thirumani.
