SAMBA, Sept 22: Tipper owners and drivers held a strong protest at Dhoda near here, today against the Geology and Mining Department for overcharging.
The protesting tipper drivers said that the cost of sand by the department is Rs.3.75 per foot, while these people are forcibly taking Rs.8 which is more than double.  They said that if double charges are not paid, the receipt for material is not given.
The protesters raised slogans against the District Mining Officer, accusing him of not taking cognizance of the matter. They alleged that there is complicity of the Department in this. Mohd Sayed, District Mineral Officer, Samba said that now the Department has made e-challan for sand, Bajri and other mining material, due to which there is no scope for theft and taking more money.
“There was a problem earlier, after my officers and I went to the spot, then e-challans were started,. He said I have also received complaints about taking more money on the spot, I have also warned the concerned contractor that if the complaint is received again, action will be taken by the Department’’.
He said that in the coming days, the entire malpractice will be stopped because the Department has made provision for e-market for the consumer and e-challan for tipper tractors, which will reduce the possibility of malpractices.
