JAMMU, Nov 2: A delegation of Tourism Federation of Jammu (TFJ), led by its Vice-Chairman, Kiran Watal, met Director Industries and Commerce (I&C), Arun Manhas, here today.
A statement said that Kiran Watal, accompanied by the executive members of the Federation-BB Kotwal and Amrik Singh-had detailed discussions with the Director Industries and Commerce, Arun Manhas, regarding the untapped growth potential of “service and tourism” sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
It said that Watal urged the Director Industries and Commerce to shift focus on service and tourism sectors since these sectors had been declared as “industry” in the Industrial Policy under the Government of India’s incentive Scheme.
The statement further said that Watal told Arun Manhas that if youth are given an opportunity to grow in service and tourism sectors, they can become employers instead of job seekers.
The delegation members further brought it to the notice of Manhas that the Industries and Commerce Department is currently focussed more on establishing units engaged in manufacturing of items.
Rather, focus should be laid on service and hospitality industries, and create special land banks and clusters, they suggested, said the statement.
The delegation members further sought awareness through camps at all the Districts and Headquarters of Jammu Province to educate the potential service sector entrepreneurs about various incentive schemes launched by the Government.
The Director Industries and Commerce, Arun Manhas, gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised by the TFJ delegation and assured them of walking some extra mile to ensure that the service and hospitality industries get their due.
