Terrorists praised, intelligence agencies branded as criminals:Rajnath

PATNA, July 9:
BJP president Rajnath Singh today charged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre with eulogising those engaged in subversive activities while the intelligence agencies working hard to protect unity and integrity of country, were being “treated like criminals.”
“This prompted terrorists to trigger serial bomb blasts at Mahabodhi temple in Gaya, shaking confidence of tourists coming from abroad, Mr Singh, said while addressing BJP workers and leaders here after former deputy chief minister and senior party leader Sushil Kumar Modi ended his 24-hour-long fast to protest the Bagaha police firing.
“UPA government is engaged in eulogising those engaged in subversive activities while intelligence agencies are being treated like criminals,” he remarked.
“The approach of the UPA government has created a situation posing serious threat to unity and integrity of the country,” Mr Singh said, adding that the CBI and Intelligence Bureau(IB) had locked horns on the issue of investigation of a case, an oblique reference to Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
The BJP president said it was ironical to note that security and intelligence agencies were facing ‘extreme humiliation’ under the present regime at the Centre which was not concerned with its serious repercussion on unity and integrity of the country.
Mr Singh said the serial bomb blasts in the Mahabodhi temple at Bodhgaya was most ‘unfortunate,’ as the place from where Lord Buddha spread the message of peace and love, became the target of terrorist attack.
Such incident had shaken the confidence of tourists coming from abroad and they would think twice before coming to India, he added.
The BJP president said intelligence alert was sent to the Bihar government well before the incident but no proper security arrangement was made for the temple.
It was not enough for the Centre just to send alerts to states. Steps should also be taken to provide security arrangements, if required, for facing such challenge, he  added.
Mr Singh said it was still not known how far the intelligence alert was specific in this case. All details should come to light to ascertain where the lapses occurred, he noted.
“We have been demanding for long from the government to chalk-outcomprehensive strategies for facing the challenge of terror attacks. But it yielded no result so far,” Mr Singh said.
He added that his party would support solidly if such an initiative was taken by the government. (UNI)
