NEW DELHI : A week after two of its ministers left the Narendra Modi Government, protesting against the latter’s decision not to grant Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, the Telugu Desam Party on Friday decided to quit the BJP-led NDA.
N Chandrababu Naidu took the decision after an emergency teleconference meeting with his party’s polit bureau members and MPs, an official announcement said.
The TDP will also give a no-confidence motion against the Union Government over the ‘injustice meted out to the state’, the party said. The Polit Bureau’s decision to quit NDA was unanimous, sources said.
The Southern party will write a letter to BJP president Amit Shah as well as other parties of the NDA informing its decision and the reasons for it, the release said.
TDP withdrew two of its Ministers, Ashok Gajapathi Raju and YS Chowdary from the Union cabinet on March 8, citing Centre’s unwillingness to grant Special Category Status to the Andhra Pradesh.
TDP members are continuing its protest inside and outside Parliament, since the Budget session began. TDP’s rival in Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress, also stated that it will move a no-confidence motion against the Union Government.
It is learned that The TDP, which has 16 MPs in the Lower House, will seek support from other parties for the no-confidence motion. (AGENCIES)
