JAMMU, May 17: Tawi Andolan and Namami Ganga workers conference was held here today in which BJP MLC Ramesh Arora was the chief guest.
The Tawi Aarti was performed on the occasion which was attended by the prominent personalities of the Jammu including environmentalists, professionals, educationists, businessmen, social activists in the field of pollution control, water conservation etc as well as members of Tawi Andolan.
Chander Mohan Sharma, convener of Tawi Andolan and Namami Ganga informed the gathering the efforts of Tawi Andolan regarding the creation of Tawi Development Board to look into the various issues pertaining to revival and rejuvenation of Tawi having rich and glorious past.
He said the Tawi is not only the life line of Jammu but also our religious sentiments are attached to this holy river.
He said that an independent body and Board having representation of environmentalists, social activists and religious representatives can take care of this great cause. It was also pointed out that Tawi Andolan for Suryaputri Tawi is not a two kilometer stretch between the Tawi Bridges 1 & 4 but right from its origin from Kaplash Kund to Thubb where it merges with Chanderbagha which is a stretch of around 160 Kms covering Udhampur and Jammu district.
The main concerns are diversion of pollutant nallas which are 17 just in Jammu periphery only and similarly in Udhampur district. It was also highlighted that to ensure availability of water throughout the year, check, ponds or mini lakes have to be created at the points of tributaries of Tawi to hold the rain water for supply during the Summers when water level depleted. This will also protect the forests and improve the ground water level.
Ramesh Arora not only appreciated the concerns of Jammu citizens but assured that he will raise the voice of Tawi Andolan to ensure that Tawi Suryaputri Board is formed by the Government.
