KISHTWAR, Aug 30: Emphasizing on inculcating spirit of brotherhood, peace and development among the students, Member Legislative Council Firdous Tak today said that youth development initiatives were key for sustainable growth and prosperity.
The legislator visited Government Degree College Kishtwar, where he inaugurated the newly upgraded Library cum reading-room of the college in presence of College Principal, Dr Shafkat Rafiqui and other staff members.
He was accompanied by District president, PDP, Sheikh Nasir Hussain, Zonal president, Arshad Hussain Giri, Youth President Wasil Doolwal, Rashid Lone, Rajesh Kumar, Mohammad Saleem and others.
On the demand of the management, the legislator announced construction of new class room for the Geography department of the college out of his Constituency Development Fund. He said that more efforts will be taken in future to meet the immediate requirement of infrastructure for the college.
Interacting with the staff and management of the college, the legislator said that special focus need to be laid on the personality development of the students by giving them exposure to extracurricular activities including cultural events and sports.
The legislator said that there is need to ensure that youths are not left out on matters of national development. “Nation progress is directly linked to the status of youth in a community as such it is the educated, empowered and confident youth which can lead a state towards prosperity”, he said adding that the reforms initiated by the education ministry in J&K are aimed at building a strong base and bring transparency in the sector.
Asserting that youth have also to play a vital role towards establishment of a strong State, the PDP legislator said that students in particular must inculcate a missionary sprit, participating in various social, cultural and other activities.
