Taj visits Devsar, announces construction of sports complex

Devsar, June 27: Pitching for a strong economic base for the State, Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today stressed the need for resource mobilization for maintaining a stable economy for J&K’s coming generations.
Addressing a public meeting here today, the Minister said financial independence and economic self-reliance are the most needed elements for a prosperous future for Jammu and Kashmir. He said we ought to leave for our children a stable exchequer, vibrant economy and abundantly available jobs.
Recalling the enactment of historic J&K Water Resources Act by the State Government in 2010, Taj said since then J&K has been able to mop up a revenue of Rs. 1000 crore annually, constituting about one-third of State’s total revenue. He said what is needed is to identify areas where the revenue resources would mobilised.
The Minister said power scenario in the State would get a boost once this revenue is put to use for buying back power projects. The State would have a surplus power which could be sold to further up the revenues of the State, he added.
On the development needs of Devsar constituency, Taj said during his earlier tenure schemes worth Rs. 50 crore were executed in the area. He said a development offensive has been unleashed in the State during the last five years of present Government. The aim, he said, is to uplift the under developed and far flung areas of the State for which a beginning has been made.
Taj said every Panchayat has been asked to make available a piece of land which could be developed as a sport field. He said he has sought a package of Rs. 700 crore from the Centre for developing sports infrastructure in the State.
On the occasion, the Minister announced construction of sports complex at Devsar town. The complex would have the facilities of playing both outdoor and indoor games and it would be equipped with latest gadgetry.
Former MLC, Mohammad Amin Bhat also spoke on the occasion.
