KARGIL, Feb 8: Highlighting the issues and grievances of locals of Suru, Councilors of the area have demanded adequate road and mobile phone connectivity to the region for promotion of Tourism in Sankoo-Suru, which has huge potential to attract tourists.
While addressing a joint press conference, here today Haji Ghulam Mohammad (Councilor Parkachik) and Ghulam Haider (Councilor Lankarchay) demanded construction of Panikhar- Pahalgam Road, Kargil- Zanskar National Highway, Parkachik/ Panikhar HE Project etc.
” The people of Suru, time and again demanding for construction of Panikhar- Pahalgam Road, which has already been surveyed and found feasible for construction work for giving connectivity to rest of UT and is also strategically safer from the defense point of view,” they said.
Demanding early work on construction of Parkachik / Panikhar Hydro electric Project, they said that DPR of the project with a generation of 200 MW of electricity was prepared but formal sanction for the work was still pending with the erstwhile J&K Government in the office of Managing Director, JKSPDC.
Seeking development and promotion of Tourism in Sankoo-Suru, the Councilors said that the region has huge potential to attract local as well as foreign tourists owning to its diverse nature of locations. “We request the UT administration of Ladakh for identification, development and promotion of tourism sites in the region that shall give boost to economy of the region,” they added.
The Councilors rued that a large number of villages in the Sankoo sub Division have no access to mobile/ telephone connectivity even in the contemporary age of technology, they urged the UT administration for complete coverage of mobile network signal and improvement of the existing communication services in the Sub-Division.
They also demanded development of Agriculture Sector in the region, which has great potential in agriculture and dairy farming. “The administration should boost the same by providing support in the shape of assistance, training and marketing to the farmer,” they stressed.
