JAMMU, July 6: Surinder Gupta emerged champion of the VCA Summer Cup Chess 2026, organised by VCA for its academy players. Around 22 participants competed in the Summer Cup, which was conducted on a points-based format. The top point scorers advanced to the finals in the Open, Women and Under-10 categories.
Deepika Kapoor, Assistant Craft Teacher in the Social Welfare Department, was the chief guest and distributed cash prizes worth Rs 3,000 along with medals to the winners.
In the Open category, Amrita Gupta qualified directly for the super final based on points. Surinder Gupta defeated Keshav in the semifinal, while Aadvik Gupta overcame Adhyan. Surinder then beat Aadvik in the final before drawing with Amrita in the super final. He clinched the title after winning the tie-break.
In the Women's section, Nitika defeated Anjali and Gunjan to claim the Best Women title. In the Under-10 category, Manushree Nischal beat Divyansh and Prince to win the Best U-10 award. The overall winners were Surinder Gupta (1st), Amrita Gupta (2nd) and Aadvik Gupta (3rd).
