JAMMU, Sept 30: Promising rated player Surinder Kumar Gupta (1455) emerged winner of the monthly chess tournament, which concluded at Vivek Chess Academy (VCA) here today.
In the final, Surinder defeated Amrita Gupta, while Ishan Choudhary finished third. In the Under-13 Boys category, Keshav Mahajan bagged the title by defeating Triyansh, while Manushree Nischal won the Under-13 Girls title after defeating Ruby Kumari.
Cash prizes totalling Rs 5,000 were presented to the first three position holders in the Open, Under-13 Boys and Under-13 Girls categories. The prizes and medals were presented by special guest Sanjeev Sharma in the presence of Vivek Bharti, Director and Coach, VCA.
In the semifinals, Surinder defeated Aarav and Amrita defeated Gulshan in Open, while Ruby defeated Bhargavi and Pearl defeated Raesha in Under-13 Girls. In Under-13 Boys, Gaurav defeated Triyansh and Rudraksh defeated Triyam.
