Close on the heels of announcing a comprehensive Film Policy, now spilling its various contours like granting subsidies in measure proportion only shows the extent of keen interest by the UT Government in reviving this lost segment of the tourism nearly for over three decades . The upper limit of the subsidy would be Rs.1 crore or 25 per cent of the total cost of production whichever is lower . However, the subsidy would proportionally be more depending upon how much percentage of the film was shot in J&K. The minimum criteria is shooting of the film must be up to its 50 percent in the environs of Jammu and Kashmir. It is, however, fairly known that the breathtaking scenery, enchanting landscapes, snow capped mountains, meadows and streams , groves of pine and fir trees, historical gardens , lakes and rivers and what not which have traditionally been attracting all those associated with the Hindi Cinema also known as Bollywood industry especially for filming song and dance sequences, Jammu and Kashmir has been the favourite choice rather the first choice of Film persons.
Among other incentives and subsidies are providing free security and safety arrangements for shooting movies, setting up of J&K Film Development Council (JKFDC) to be headed by no less a person than the one of the rank of Principal Secretary to the Government and J&K Film Division. As setting up of the JKFDC is a major development to look into and resolve issues pertaining to the Film shooting in Jammu and Kashmir , we would like to reiterate that ‘Excelsior’ had exclusively hinted about setting up of the first ever JKFDC. That no amount of red-tape or delays at Government levels occurred to the needs and requirements of the film makers in the UT, it is decided that within one month of the applying for the same through Police Authorities, sanction will be granted for police clearance and other relevant needs. Since safety and security of the film crew and their equipment is of paramount importance , which the people from the Industry too require, a Nodal Officer from Police Department going to be nominated to be in overall charge of safety and security measures and providing other related facilities for shooting movies would establish confidence and assurance in Film makers.
