KATRA, Jan 15:  In a bid to raise awareness about safe driving, students in large numbers took out a rally, organized here today by Motor Vehicle Department Reasi in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) Katra.
The awareness rally was flagged off by Superintendent of Police Katra-Kulbir Singh from Spiritual Growth Center, Katra.
The rally was taken out as part of the 26th Road Safety Week celebrations, which commenced on January 11, with this year’s theme being ‘Safety is not just a slogan; it’s a way of life.’
SP Kulbir Singh, while addressing the participants, stressed that people need to be more responsible when it comes to driving.
ARTO Reasi, Rajesh Gupta in his address, drew attention towards the dangerous habit of talking on the mobile phone while driving, and said this was quite prevalent. He added that such people not only put their own lives at risk but also of others by doing so.
A colourful cultural program, sponsored by NHPC, was also presented on the occasion.
The participants reached out to the public and campaigned on road safety. The campaigners carried placards highlighting the importance of road safety and fatal risks caused by vehicles. The rally proceeded through the thoroughfares of the town and culminated at the starting point.
OSD SMVDSB-Rajinder Singh, Deputy Chief Executive Officers SMVDSB- Pankaj Sharma, Devinder Singh Bhau, and Anil Sharma, PO DRDA-Dr Jagdish Mehra, Director Sports SMVDSB-Ashok Kumar, Chief Education Officer Reasi-Ashok Kumar, ALC-Seema Khanna, Tehsildar-Ram Lal Sharma and prominent citizens of Katra were also present on the occasion.
