JAMMU, Oct 2: On Spot Essay and Short Story Writing Competitions, were organised during the ongoing “Display Your Talent” being organized by Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu.
The topics for On the Spot Essay Writing were “Mahatma Gandhi and Youth”, “Poverty is the Worst Form Of Violence-Mahatma Gandhi”, “Social Networking Sites”, “Environment and Ecology” and “A Person You Would Like To Look Like” whereas subjects for the Short Story Writing were “Forgiveness”, “Morality”, “Any Issue of Social Concern”, “Satire” and “A Tree on the River Side”.
The participants were required to write an essay comprising 2000 to 3000 words on any one of the given topics within the time duration of 60 minutes. While the time limit for Short Story Writing was 90 minutes and the young writers were suppose to Pen-down a Short Story comprising 1500 words and give a suitable title to the Story. Total 89 students displayed their creative pursuits in both the events.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare and Prof. K. B. Razdan, Former, Head of the Department of English, distributed the participation certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Jasbir Singh, paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation on his Birth Anniversary and described him as an apostle of Peace and Love. Prof Singh further said that the Campus Cultural Committee and the Department of Students Welfare will strive for providing all possible assistance and support to the budding artists.
Dr Anupama Vohra, was the Teacher Incharge for Essay Writing, while, Dr Vijay Saigal, for Short Story Writing.
Among others present were Nidhi Kaila, Secretary, Students Cultural Council and Vaibhav Sharma.
