RAJOURI, Feb 12: The students of College of Engineering and Technology of Baba Ghulam Shah Badsha University (BGSBU) went on strike and held strong protest demonstration outside the office of Vice Chancellor of the Varsity in support of their demands today.
Reports said the students of the College of Engineering and Technology with their demands moved to the Dean but after receiving no positive response, then they moved towards the office of Vice Chancellor and started their protest dharna, boycotting their classes. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands.
They alleged that students were demanding holding of special examinations to clear backlog, declaration of results in time, proper transport facilities to the Campus as it is 7 kms away from Rajouri town, proper water and electricity supply and adequate library facilities, but there was no proper response from the concerned authorities.
The students pointed out that hostel also lacks many facilities. There is no proper supply of hygienic water, wash rooms are in bad shape, taps are broken and even the food being served is not good. They said the students are paying over Rs 45,000 for the hostel but the facilities were very poor.
The Registrar of the Varsity then moved to the students and asked them to suspend agitation with the assurance that he would take up the issue with the VC. But the students resolved to go ahead with the strike till their demands are settled.
