Student drowns in Chenab

RAMBAN, Sept 1: In a tragic incident, here today, a college student drowned in Chenab River while bathing at Maitra area.

The deceased was identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Tangar area of Ramban district.

According to preliminary information, Ravi was bathing in the river when he was swept away by the strong currents after which he disappeared into the fast flowing water.

After receiving the information about the incident, cops and rescue teams were mobilized and a search operation was launched to trace the missing youth but he was not traced till last reports after which the operation was stopped as it was getting dark.

Sources informed that the operation will resume in the morning tomorrow.

Executive Magistrate (Tehsildar) Ramban, Deep Kumar appealed to the public, particularly youngsters, to refrain from entering the Chenab River for bathing or recreational activities, cautioning that the river poses serious risks due to strong and unpredictable currents.
