Strike disrupts life in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 8: Amid restrictions in parts of Srinagar as well as in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, shutdown was today observed across the Valley on the third death anniversary of Hizb commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani whose killing led to widespread violence here in 2016.
The shutdown was called by separatists Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) who appealed people to observe shutdown today.
In view of the shutdown call today, the authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar and Tral area today to prevent any law and order situation.
A large contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed in parts of old city to thwart the protests, if any. The troops blocked roads by erecting concertina wires on the roads.
Shops, business establishments, petrol pumps, educational institutes and private offices remained closed while as the traffic was also thin on the roads throughout the day with streets mostly deserted.
The mobile internet services were suspended in parts of Kashmir today while as the speed was reduced to 2G in rest of the areas.
Besides, the train services from Baramulla- Banihal were also suspended as security reasons today.
However, the situation remained peaceful and under control throughout the day.
