JAMMU, Dec 10: One day Orientation workshop on New Maternal Health Guidelines like Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), National Iron Plus Initiative, Community Based Distribution of Misoprostol for Prevention of Post Partum Haemorrhage, etc. was held at State Health Society, National Health Mission, Nagrota today on the directions of Bali Baghat, Minister for Health and Medical Education.
The workshop was inaugurated by Commissioner/ Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr. Mandeep K Bhandari.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhandari said that department should focus on strengthening of mother and child healthcare delivery for reducing the maternal & infant mortality in the State. He directed the officers/ officials of the department to reach to the grass root level by creating awareness regarding various schemes benefitting the common masses.
He took a strong notice for non-reporting of Maternal & Child Deaths and directed the Director Health Services, Jammu & Mission Director, NHM J&K to take punitive action against the officers, who fail to report such deaths. He also directed that graph of delivery events should be maintained for each delivery to justify the referrals & excess Caesarean Sections.
Dr. Mohan Singh, Mission Director, NHM gave a detailed presentation for guiding Block Medical Officers in better monitoring of key indicators from HMIS portal. He stressed on all the officers to monitor the performance indicators of all the programmes by coordinating with programme management units for timely improvement in the health care delivery system.
Dr Baldev Raj Sharma, Director Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization, stressed on Deputy Chief Medical Officers & Block Medical Officers to have interactive sessions and understand the guidelines for better implementation of the programmes/ schemes.
Dr. Mohd Shafi Koka, State Nodal Officer, NHM explained the purpose of workshop, which is to have clear & uniform understanding across districts regarding implementation of various new initiatives being rolled out in the state.
Detailed presentation on various guidelines of Maternal Health was given by Dr Harjeet Rai, Divisional Nodal Officer, NHM & Dr Om Kumar, Programme Manager, Dr. Arshad Nazir, Assistant Programme Manager, Maternal Health & Tapas Chatterjee, State RMNCH+A Coordinator.
The workshop was attended by Dr. Gurjeet Singh, Director Health Services, Jammu; Dr. Baldev Raj Sharma, Director Family Welfare,  Deputy Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers, RMNCH+A Consultants/ Coordinators & District ASHA Coordinators from all the districts of the Jammu division and Programme Managers from State Health Society, J&K.
