JAMMU, Oct 1: The State Taxes Department (STD), today intensified field enforcement and compliance monitoring across the district during the financial year 2026-27, with a focus on checking goods vehicles, E-Way Bills and statutory documents under the J&K GST Act, 2017.

The enforcement drive was conducted under the supervision of Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K, P K Bhat, and Additional Commissioner, State Taxes (Enforcement & Administration), Dhanater Singh. As part of the drive, mobile nakas are being established at strategic locations to monitor the movement of goods and verify compliance with GST provisions.

Enforcement teams are checking E-Way Bills through the E-Way Bill application, besides tax invoices, delivery challans and other documents accompanying consignments.

The department said vehicles are being selected for verification based on field inputs and risk assessment. The exercise is aimed at identifying critical compliance gaps, including movement of goods without valid E-Way Bills or e-invoices, misclassification of goods, quantity mismatches and incorrect declaration of tax rates.

Wherever discrepancies are detected, action is being taken under the provisions of the GST Act, officials said.

During the current financial year up to September 2026, Enforcement Kathua has verified more than 33 lakh E-Way Bills through the E-Way App and physically verified nearly 200 vehicles.

The enforcement teams have realised Rs 1.77 crore in penalties during the period, compared to Rs 1.31 crore collected during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

This represents an increase of around 35 per cent, reflecting intensified compliance monitoring and enforcement activity in the district.
