JAMMU, July 17: All J&K SRTC Volunteer Retired Employees Association held a demonstration and sit on dharna at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here, today.
The protest was held under the leadership of Dev Raj Bali, president of VRS Union. The protestors strongly criticized the attitude of the State administration and Transport authorities who they alleged are in connivance and hell bent upon to harass the VRS employees who are struggling for last eight years for the release of 50 percent balance COLA arrears, amounting to Rs 16,76, 49,497 and 6th Pay Commission arrears and bonus @ 8.33 percent. They wanted to know why the balance dues have not been released till date where as all the documents are complete in all respects and are lying in Civil Secretariat.

The Association said that in this long struggle 39 VRS employees have breathed their last as they could not afford the good medical treatment for want of funds. The Association wanted to know who was responsible for the loss to these families. The Association blamed the State administration for this all mess and appealed the Governor to take the cognizance of the matter and settle their demands which included release of COLA arrears w.e.f 1999, release of 6th Pay Commission arrears w.e.f. June 1, 2006 and implementation of Corporation benefits.
