JAMMU, Feb 4: The Senior Citizens Service Support Club presented play Comrade Dhanwantri in Dogri language at its premises at Chowadi.
The play was written and directed by Rajneesh Gupta, a well known face in the field of culture. The play was an outcome of research work by the writer on the lone Dogra freedom fighter Comrade Dhanwantri about whom we the Jammuites do not know very much.
Dhanwantri was an associate of Bhagat Singh and Chander Shekhar Azad. He spent his whole life for the welfare of people and in jails, mainly Kaala Paani for more than 6 years and in other jails too for more than 6 years. He was an extremist and fought bravely with Britishers for the cause of his countrymen.
In the play, the role of Dhanwantri was excellently performed by Amit Bhalla, a talented young man of the city. Lala Lajpat Rai was played by seasoned artist Madan Rangila. Rekha Sharma did four different roles diligently while Vinay Dagger was dashing as cruel Englishman. Tarun Charak played Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh ably and Mahatma Gandhi was played by talented Pawan Verma.
The other artists who also gave scintillating performances, were Savita Khajuria, Harbans Lal, Tarun Sharma, Avinash Lakhnotra, Rishab Manhas, Shiv Vohra, Sudesh Kumar and Deepak Sharma. The artistic makeup was done by Shammi Dameer and music was handled and executed by Yuvraj Gupta.
Prominent among the audience, who witnessed the play, included Dr Kasturi Lal Gupta, Chairman of the club and former Principal GMC; Ashok Gupta, President of the club; Maj Gen S K Sharma, General Secretary of the club; Raj Bharti, Chairman, Viraj Kala Kendra; Pushpa Bharti, Usha Gupta, Executive Trustee, Lajwanti Medical Trust and others.
