SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Legislative Assembly Speaker, Kavinder Gupta today thanked the legislators for their cooperation to run the House smoothly.
Speaking at the culmination of the Autumn Session, the Speaker said it was not possible for him to run the House without the cooperation of the Members. At times it was difficult for him to marshal out some of the Members for creating hurdles in the proceedings of the House, adding that it was part of the Parliamentary procedure and there is nothing personal. He said he tried to accommodate every Member to raise the issues of public importance, yet in view of paucity of time some Members may have not got opportunity to speak.
The Speaker also expressed his gratitude to Government, media, Information Department, Police, Assembly Secretariat including the IT Branch and all other agencies for their whole hearted support in maintaining the House.
Giving details about the business conducted in the House, the Speaker said that Assembly Secretariat received 570 questions; out of which 524 were listed and 47 questions were taken up during the session. The Speaker said 99 supplementary questions were raised on the floor of the house.
As many as 148 issues were raised during Zero Hour, 2 Government Bills were introduced and passed. Besides, 1 Private Members’ Bills was taken up out of 14 received. Besides, 130 Calling Attention Notices were received, out of which 44 were listed and 2 were disallowed.
The Speaker informed that five (5) papers were laid on the table of the house.
He further said that 52 Resolutions were received, out of which 47 admitted and 5 disallowed. He said 7 Resolutions balloted for being taken up in the House, 02 Resolution were taken up, one adopted by the House and one Resolution further discussion.
Earlier, senior opposition leader and MLA Eidgah, Mubarak Gul complimented the Speaker for smoothly conducting the proceedings during the ongoing session. He said, the opposition’s role is to criticize the Government for their weaknesses. Mr Gul lauded the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for remaining present throughout the session and making members to behave professionally.
CPIM leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, also spoke on the occasion. He said that House should pass a resolution where in the members should be directed to work for the betterment of the society.
“We may have political differences. We may have different ideologies but as far as the work for the benevolence of the people is concerned, we shouldn’t have any difference,” Tarigami told the members on the floor of the house. Congress leader and MLA, Gool, Aijaz Ahmed Khan also spoke on the occasion.
