SAMBA, Oct 11: Solar systems installed in prominent health institutes in Samba, Vijaypur and Bishnah have been lying in shambles for the last several months.
Sources said that the solar systems were installed in District Hospital, Samba, Accidental Hospital Vijaypur and Government Hospital Bishnah some months back but due to lack of technical support and sufficient funds they are lying idle.
It is pertinent to mention here that to save electricity and promote solar power projects the Governments had installed solar power systems in these health institutions which have become defunct now for the past several months.
Locals alleged that despite having spent lakhs of rupees, the solar system installed in these health institutions have become show piece and people of Samba, Vijaypur and Bishnah are not getting any benefit.
Locals said that there is a crisis of electricity in Vijaypur town and the solar system was installed in Accidental Hospital Vijaypur so that hospital gets uninterrupted power and the patients here may not suffer, but it proved to be nine days wonder.
They said due to lack of funds and technical assistance, these solar power systems have been lying idle in the hospital premises. “Despite complaining to senior officials in Health Department and District administration, nothing has been done to resolve the issue”, locals said.
When contacted, Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr Gurjeet Singh, said that the solar system of Government Hospital Bishnah had some defect which was removed few days back and now it is functional. “As far as the solar systems of District Hospital, Samba and Accidental Hospital, Vijaypur are concerned, there is some fault in one of their components, which needs to be replaced and the company engineers who have installed these solar systems have been informed but as these components are rarely available, the restoration of these solar systems could took some days”, Dr Singh added.
