JAMMU, Dec 8: The executive body meeting of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) was held here today under the chairmanship of its President, Dr Vikas Sharma, in which the issue regarding the enhancement in retirement age of University faculty members / scientists from 62 to 65 years was discussed.
Vikas Sharma said that G B Pant University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Pantnagar and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, have taken the lead in this regard and fixed the age of superannuation as 65 in the year 2013 there by retaining the excellent human resource. The Central University of Kashmir and Central University of Jammu also have 65 yrs age of superannuation for their teachers, and this is in tune with the recommendations of UGC, he added and further informed that in the recent Council Meet, SMVDU has also increased the superannuation age of their teachers to 65 and the agenda item regarding enhancement in superannuation age of teachers has already been approved long back in the Council Meet of University of Jammu and University of Kashmir.
Dr Sharma further pointed out that State Universities are accepting all UGC requirements that had been brought into force including qualifications laid down for various posts and appealed that it is only fair that service conditions recommended by UGC for teachers / scientists should now be implemented in toto for better research and teaching outputs.
The house said that the erstwhile State Administration vide its office Memorandum No. A/Misc (Uni)-2018/318 dated 29.05.2018 has implemented all the 7th CPC recommendations except enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years. “Pursuant to bifurcation of the J&K State into UTs of J&K and Ladakh, followed by the Prime Minister’s speech w.r.t extension of all the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to the employees of the erstwhile J&K State , it is urged that the orders / notifications for enhancement age of superannuation from 62 to 65 years to University teachers in consonance with the UGC 7th Pay Commission recommendation (already in vogue in Central Universities of J&K and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu ) may please be issued instantly. It is pertinent to mention here that superannuation age of teachers of Universities following under UTs with Legislation like Delhi & Pondicherry have already enhanced to 65 years,” the house urged.
