JAMMU, Nov 4: SKUAST-Teachers’ Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) and SKUAST-K Scientists & Teachers Association (SSTA KASHMIR) have expressed their reservations over the JK Public University Bill 2022 and unanimously termed the draft bill as mere interference into the autonomous and independent working atmosphere of the universities.
Both the teaching associations of the farm varsities expressed that such acts of dilution of the University governing bodies and interference into the academic and research domains of the varsities will affect the overall growth, progress and functioning of apex academic institutions.
The teaching associations of SKUAST-J&K further observed that the proposed nomination of the Registrar as Chief Administrative Officer on deputation from the Government is not in the interest of the universities as both the farm universities are governed by the rules and regulations of the UGC, Model Act of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi in addition to periodic accreditation at the national level by peer review committee besides following the curriculum of national level at UG and PG levels.
Conveying strong resentment and displeasure over the proposed bill, SKUAST-TAJ and SSTA Kashmir made a passionate appeal to Lt Governor UT of J & K, Manoj Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of both farm Universities , for immediately withdrawing the proposed bill.
