JAMMU, Feb 4: Saksham Jammu and Kashmir (SJK), an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, confirmed 100 percent participation of divyangs (persons with disabilities) in the upcoming 2024 April/May Lok Sabha elections.
The decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of SJK which held under the leadership of Advocate Pawan Dev Singh, President of Saksham for UT Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Pawan Dev Singh emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the democratic process.
He stated, “Our commitment to ensuring the active participation of divyangs in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is not just a responsibility; it is a testament to our dedication to a truly democratic and inclusive society.”
Saksham Jammu and Kashmir outlined a comprehensive plan involving collaboration with various stakeholders, including Government agencies, self-help groups, non-Governmental organizations (NGOs), security forces, and Saksham karyakartas so that 100 percent participation of divyangs is ensured.
The objective is to create a conducive environment including facilities of wheel chair, ramps, helpers at all polling booths to facilitates and encourages divyangs to exercise their democratic right.
Dr. B. D. Sharma, the Patron of Saksham, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “Inclusion is at the core of our values. We believe that every individual, regardless of their abilities, should have the opportunity to actively participate in shaping the future of our nation.”
Secretary Sunil Singh said “We recognize the importance of collaboration and synergy among different sectors. By working hand in hand with Government agencies, NGOs, and other entities, we aim to remove barriers and create an environment that fosters equal participation.”
Finally Abay Pargal Gupta National Joint secretary Saksham deliberated a detailed plan for the entire nation so that all divyangs get an opportunity to cast their precious vote hassle free.
Among others who attended the meeting included Prant Prachar Parmukh and columnist Satish Singh Manhas and Joint Secretary Daleep Singh.
