Sikh leaders urge Govt to pass refugee package

JAMMU, Aug 26: Sikh organizations today stressed upon the State coalition Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to pass the package in favour of 1947 PoK refugees in the State Cabinet meeting.
The issue was raised during a meeting of various Sikh Organisations of the State held today under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh, chief organizer, Bhai Kanahiya Jee Nishkam Seva Society.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from J&K Sikh United Front, AISSF J&K, Sikh Naujawan Sabha, Sikh Welfare Society and Gurmat Vichar Manch. The participants urged the Government to pass the refugee rehabilitation package in favour of 1947 PoK refugees, lying pending for last 67 years, in the Cabinet meeting.
They said that Central Government is ready to pay the said package if State Cabinet Government passes it, which includes 2% reservation and funds for development of their localities. The Sikh leaders demanded that in place of 2%, 4% reservation be considered. They also demand minority status for Sikhs in J&K on pattern of Paharies and OBC in employment and technical institutions.
