JAMMU, June 22: Various Sikh bodies including Sikh Intellectuals Circle J&K, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), J&K Sikh Council, International Sikh Federation, Sikhs Future in J&K and Sikh Students Federation while welcoming the start of dialogue process by Govt of India in Jammu and Kashmir, have demanded restoration of special status of J&K as per pre- 5th August, 2019 position and said people of J&K need confidence building measures for the restoration of democratic and Fundamental rights.
Chairman Sikh Intellectuals Circle J&K, Narinder Singh Khalsa while addressing a joint press conference along with senior Sikh leaders including – Ram Singh, Prof Surinder Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Harmanan Singh, Jatinder Singh, Harasis Singh, Amarjit Singh, Rajinder Singh and others disclosed that beginning of dialogue process by Govt of India, has proved that policy of suppression and radicalizing narratives have failed in Jammu and Kashmir and people of J&K have rejected all one sided undemocratic steps, aimed at creating demographic changes in J&K.
Sikh leaders have appealed to leaders of various political parties going for dialogue process, to atleast demand the restoration of special status for J&K.
“We hope that leaders of Gupkar alliance, who have resolved to strive for restoration of special status, must stick to their commitment in view of the fact that till date on ground there is no popular acceptance of the abrogation of special status and its bifurcation on August 5, 2019.
Sikh leaders while welcoming the recent statements of India and Pakistan on resolving issues through dialogue have said that Sikh Community of J&K is in favour of dialogue between India and Pakistan for conflict resolutions including the trilateral problem of Jammu and Kashmir, so that peace and economic development in this region will strengthen friendship between two neighbouring countries.
Similarly, in view of the fact that last year most of the mainstream political parties of J&K had rejected the Centre’s totally one sided delimitation plans and we appeal to leaders participating in negotiations to at least again raise their voice for checking the margin of communal manipulations in J&K. It is hoped that concerns and aspirations of minority Sikh community will be taken into consideration in Delimitation process.
Sikh leaders said after August 5, 2019 the confidence of the people of Jammu and Kashmir was badly shattered and now the people of J&K need confidence building measures (CBMS) including the restoration of pre- 5th August, 2019 position, release of all political prisoners, end of curbs and restrictions of Political activities, and media in J&K for creating conducive atmosphere for peace, development and composite dialogue process between difference stake holders for resolution of J&K problem.
