SIA conducts raids near LoC

Srinagar, July 19: State Investigation Agency (SIA) today conducted raids near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and arrested a few people in the hawala case in which former Minister, Babu Singh and several others have already been arrested.
The SIA, Jammu with the help of District Police and Civil Administration of district Baramulla conducted raids at multiple locations of District Baramulla in Nambla Uri, near the LoC in connection with funding of militancy through hawala.
The case was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar (FIR No. 73/2022 dated 31.03.2022 under Sections U/S 13, 17, 18 UA(P) Act, 1967) and later transferred to SIA Jammu.
The SIA said that in today’s raids, large amount of evidence with regard to smuggling of narcotics from across the border and generating the funds from the same for financing the militancy modules, separatists, Over Ground Workers, to the families of killed militants have been established.
The SIA during investigations found that the money generated from the narcotic has also been used to finance some fake journalists for creating fake and wrong narrative against the J&K to support and glorify militancy by using different social media platforms for the indoctrinating and alluring youngsters into militancy.
The SIA during raids in Uri arrested few people who were involved in the nexus of narcotic militancy financing and investigation is proceeding to establish the involvement of some more people in the nexus who are already under scanner.
So far, Rs 6.9 lakhs have been recovered by police in the case.
A Police spokesperson said that more raids are expected in coming days and the efforts will continue to demolish such modules operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, former Minister Jatinder Singh alias Babu Singh was arrested by the SIA and preliminary investigations by Jammu Police revealed that he had large number of contacts in Pakistan.
Babu Singh was arrested on April 9 along Jammu-Punjab border in Kathua district after evading arrest for nearly 10 days.
Earlier four persons had been arrested in the hawala racket. They included Mohammad Shareef Shah, 64, a resident of Syedpora Larnoo in Kokernag area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir, Gurdev Singh and Mohammad Sharief Sartaj of Jammu and Sidhant Sharma of Kathua.
The case was cracked after police arrested Shareef Shah from Gandhi Nagar area and recovered Rs 6.9 lakh from his possession.
Shareef had revealed names of his local and foreign associates including Javed and Khatib, residents of Pakistan occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) and Farooq Khan of Toronto, Canada.
