Shutdown in Kashmir, 2 injured

SRINAGAR, Dec 30: Two persons were injured in clashes during cordon and search operations in South Kashmir’s Samboora village while normal life was paralysed today due to shut down called by separatists.
Stone throwing clashes erupted in Samboora area of Pampore in Pulwama district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the village after reports about presence of militants. Two protesters received bullet injuries during the clashes.
The injured were immediately removed to nearby hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. The cordon and search operation was called off due to protests.
In the meantime, a shutdown amid clashes and protests was observed in Kashmir today during which JKLF leader Yasin Malik was detained in Pulwama.
The JKLF chief appeared at local Jamia Masjid during morning prayers in Pulwama. Malik was scheduled to lead a protest march after Friday prayers. Soon after the Friday prayers, Malik along with hundreds of people took out a protest march from Pulwama Jamia Masjid.
A large contingent of police arrived on the spot and detained Malik. The arrest of Malik triggered protests in Pulwama and youth pelted stones on cops, ensuing clashes.
Clashes erupted at Murran Chowk and in adjoining localities of the Pulwama. Police fired teargas to disperse the protesters. The clashes in the area continued for several hours.
In Srinagar, protests were held outside Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers. Police fired some teargas shells and CRPF personnel were deployed in and around Jamia Masjid area.
Shops, commercial establishments and other petrol stations were closed. The public transport was off the roads while private transport was plying smoothly on all the routes.
Clashes erupted at Batamaloo and HMT areas of uptown as protesters took to streets and held protests. The clashes continued intermittently throughout the day post-Friday prayers.
Amid shutdown, clashes erupted at Sopore town of Baramulla district when large number of people came out of Jamia Masjid. Police fired teargas against the protesters. The clashes also raged at Papchan in Bandipora district. Clashes also erupted at Tral in Pulwama district and Aripanthan in Budgam district.
