Shortage of drinking water irks residents

DODA, June 23: Shortage of drinking water has irked the residents of Itwas area of Jodhpur of this district.
Residents while speaking to the EXCELSIOR said that they are facing manifold problems due to shortage of drinking water.
Despite regular pleas to the Jal Shakti Department, nothing has been done for the residents to overcome the problems arising due to shortage of drinking water, they added.
A social activist and resident of village Itwas Kashmir Singh said that they approached District Administration several times for providing adequate drinking water, but nothing has been done till today.
“The residents have to cover a long distance on foot to fetch the drinking water”, he added.
Ravita Devi said that they are facing lot of problems due to non-availability of drinking water.
“Drinking water is being supplied to our village for an daily, which is not sufficient”, she added.
During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, doctors have advised people to wash their hands regularly for around 20 seconds, she said and questioned how is it possible to wash hands regularly for 20 seconds if we get drinking water supply for around an hour a day.
Another lady Rina Devi said that they have to cover a long distance to fetch the drinking water from a water tank.
“Non-availability of drinking water has created manifold problems for the people especially women folk. Water is being used to wash clothes, drinking, cooking food, washing utensils, etc, she said and questioned how is it possible to do all this by getting water supply for one hour only.
The residents have appealed to the District Administration to redress the water shortage issue in the shortest possible time so that people of this area could have sigh of relief.
