Shivanti scores 2nd consecutive fifty; Nadia, Sandhya shine as J&K crush Arunachal Pradesh

JAMMU, Oct 20: Shivanti Gupta scored second consecutive fifty, while Nadia Chowdhary sparkled and skipper Sandhya Sayal continued her superb bowling display to guide Jammu and Kashmir to a big win by 85 runs win over minnows Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 Trophy at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, J&K rode on a brilliant partnership of 103 runs between Shivanti Gupta (52) and Nadia Chowdhary (49) to set a good target of 145 runs for Arunachal Pradesh. After the loss of Anju Tomar’s wicket at 8 runs in 2 overs, the duo of Shivanti and Nadia took the score to 111 runs before latter’s dismissal. Shivanti scored 42-ball 52 runs studded with 7 boundaries, while Nadia contributed 49 runs off 50 balls with the help of 6 boundaries. Then explosive Rubia Syed hit power-packed 19-ball 26 runs including one six and one four to help J&K score formidable 144 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 5 wickets in the proces.
For Arunachal Pradesh S Ligu took 2 wickets by conceding 23 runs in her 4 overs, while Itika Tyagi and Nabam Para claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Arunachal Pradesh managed to score paltry 59 runs in 20 overs by losing 6 wickets to lose the match by a big margin of 85 runs. Skipper Nabam Yapu (22) and Sai Rajesh Bhoyar (18) were the main contributors.
For J&K, Sandhya Sayal Sayal was once again pick of the bowlers who took 2 wickets by conceding 7 runs in her 4 overs, while Nadia also took 2 wickets by giving away 15 runs in her 3 overs. Bismah Hassan and Anju Tomar claimed one wicket each.
Now, J&K will take on Tamil Nadu in the next match on October 22, 2022.
