SAMBA, Oct 31: The Commissioner/ Secretary, BPE and Floriculture, Sanjeev Verma today urged the farmers to adopt the latest technologies to achieve self sufficiency in floriculture.
While interacting with farmers during his visit to floriculture fields in areas of Sankha Morh, Karalian and Vijaypur areas of Samba district on Field Day today, he emphasized on the need to plan a cropping system which is economically remunerative ecologically sustainable and productive as well.
Mr Verma stressed upon farmers to use modern technology and Agri inputs to make the State self sustainable in commercial floriculture.
Director Floriculture K K Sharma also accompanied him. He said that during this festive season the major demand of marigold flowers is catered by local production and over 3000 acres are covered under the area expansion programme of Floriculture Department this season.
Tajinder Singh president J&K Floriculture Growers Association informed that City of Temples is known as City of Flowers now due to the collective efforts of the stake holders, Association and Floriculture Department and it is the best time for the State to provide industrial status, necessary infrastructure and promote Indo-Dutch programme for flowers bulbs propagation in the State.
