SRINAGAR, June 7: The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt General SK Dua and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, K Rajendra Kumar, today co-chaired a security review meeting in Anantnag ahead of by-poll and annual Amarnath yatra in the backdrop of two back to back militant attacks in Anantnag in which 5 security men were killed and 7 others injured.
The meeting was attended by GOC Vajra Division, GOC Dagger Division, GOC Victor Force, GOC Kilo Force, IGP Kashmir, ADG CRPF, Joint Dir (IB), DIG CRPF, IG BSF, DIG South Kashmir and DIG North Kashmir.
The meeting was held at Khanabal, Anantnag at a time when by-poll is being held in Anantnag constituency where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is contesting election.
The meeting was held in the backdrop of two attacks last week in which 3 BSF men were killed and 7 others injured in an attack on their convoy at Bijbehara and two cops including an officer was killed in Anantnag.
The meeting discussed overall security situation in Kashmir and to ensure smooth conduct of by-poll in Anantnag and maintaining robust counter militancy grid in Kashmir valley ahead of annual Amarnath yatra.
The meeting laid special emphasis on enhancing synergy between various agencies so as to ensure a peaceful and incident free election. The aspects of sharing of intelligence, joint planning, situational awareness, flow of information and compatibility of communication equipment were deliberated upon.
All security agencies expressed their satisfaction on their preparedness for the period and particularly the added security afforded by the infusion of cutting-edge technology into the surveillance infrastructure.
Expressing satisfaction on the synchronization of actions amongst various intelligence agencies, Lt Gen Satish Dua emphasized on maintaining a high level of preparedness to deal with the spurt in militancy incidents and highlighted on the combined effort to effectively counter such incidents. The heads of security agencies assured the gathering on the effectiveness of law and order control measures in place.
In the meantime, security has been put on alert in South Kashmir, especially in Anantnag district and massive manhunt has been launched against the militants who carried out two strikes in Anantnag district.
Police have already circulated posters of two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants in Anantnag district who carried out attack in Anantnag on Saturday.
Pictures and video of these two militants while carrying out the attack appeared on social media soon after the attack. Police have identified these militants as Junaid Ahmad Mattoo son of Manzoor Ahmad Mattoo resident of Khudwani in Kulgam district and another as Ali, a foreigner.
Police have already detained two persons including brother of Mattoo in connection with Anantnag attack. They were picked up by Special Operation Group (SOG) of Police during a raid at Khudwani area of Kulgam district yesterday. The detained youth have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone and Parvez Ahmad Mattoo.
