JAMMU, Oct 15: Socialistic Democratic Party (SDP) president, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today demanded that the State Assembly elections be postponed till March 2015 as presently the majority of the State population was passing through a testing time and lacks of people of the State were struggling to start their lives afresh from zero.
“I today sent letters to the Chief Election Commission and other Election Commissioners explaining them the situation and categorically told them that elections on scheduled time will mean a mockery of the democratic process. When people are suffering and trying to deal with the worst ever flood disaster in Kashmir and parts of Jammu, it was quite against the ethics of democracy to hold elections at this point of time,” said Dr Darakhshan.
SDP president said that those political groups who are adamant on their demand of holding the elections now are interested in exploiting the situation of disaster and misery of people for their political benefits. She said that such insensitive politicians have always played political games at the cost of the lives of the people of the State.
Dr Darakhshan demanded the imposition of Governor’s rule for four-five months in the State and defer the election process till the end of the severe winters.
