SC/ST Corpn distributes Rs 1.25 cr worth cheques

JAMMU, Mar 3: The J&K Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Development Corporation today conducted one  day awareness camp at Town Hall, Anantnag. The programme was inaugurated by Muneer-ul-Islam, District Development Commissioner, Anantnag and Y P Suman, Managing Director, J&K SC, ST & BC Dev. Corporation Limited.
The  main objective of the awareness camp was to make the public aware about the programmes/schemes of the Corporation, which were available for the development of  Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Notified National Minorities(i.e. Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Parsis and Jains), Safai Karamcharis / their dependents and handicapped (Persons with Disabilities) categories.
In the awareness programme, loan cheques/ sanction orders of Rs.1.25 crore were given to ’70’ beneficiaries of Safai Karamcharis, Handicapped and ST categories, to establish their  income generating units.
In his address, Islam, stressed upon the beneficiaries to utilize the loan amount for the projects sanctioned by the Corporation and run the units for their soci-economic upliftment and live with dignity . He appreciated the schemes /programmes of the corporation and asked the Corporation give proper education/counseling to the beneficiaries for proper successfully running/ management of the units.
Y.P.Suman,  Managing Director of the Corporation highlight the schemes/ programmes of the Corporation and informed that the corporation is working as State Channelizing Agency for six National Level Corporations of the Government of India and working for the upliftment of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Notified National Minorities, Safai Karamcharis/ Scavengers and Handicapped categories in J&K and also implementing welfare schemes in collaboration with Banks.
The Managing Director impressed upon  the target group people  to avail the maximum benefits of the schemes launched by the Government through SC, ST & BC Corporation to set-up the income generating units to improve their socio-economic living standard. A large gathering across the Anantnag,  District  including Sarpanches, panches and other prominent citizens participated in the function. He informed that the corporation so far has provided financial assistance  to ‘34000’ beneficiaries under its various schemes in the State. He informed that during last six year the corporation provide financial Assistance of Rs.7.50 crore to ‘1100’ beneficiaries in District Anantnag and in current financial year loans of Rs.2.22 crores are sanctioned in favour of ‘123’ beneficiaries in the District Anantnag.
Mohammad Iqbal Kataria, Manager Projects of the corporation briefed the details of the schemes, which are in operation with the corporation and procedure for availing these schemes to improve the Socio-economic conditions of the target group people. He informed that the corporation is providing financial assistance to the target group persons, for establishment of income generating units, from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 30,00,000 under Direct Financing Schemes, Loan Assistance upto Rs.1.00 lakh (including Rs. 10,000 & Rs. 3,000 subsidy to SC, ST & BC categories respectively) under Bank Tie-up Scheme, Educational Loan to the students of  target group families upto Rs.10.00 lakh for study in India and upto Rs. 20.00 lakh for study in abroad at the interest rates of 4% p.a in case male and 3.50% p.a. in case female students.
