Schools shut in Poonch after rain, 10 rescued

POONCH/ RAJOURI, Sept 1: The District administration today closed schools in Poonch after heavy rain and flood in Nallahs in Poonch while ten persons were rescued from Jamola river in Rajouri district.

Reports said that police and SDRF men rescued 10 persons, including six children from flooded Jamola River after heavy rain in the area.

Acting swiftly on information regarding persons stranded in the Jamola River in the Bhadoon area team of Rajouri Police along with SDRF launched a rescue operation after the water level in the river rose suddenly.

During the operation 10 persons including six children who got trapped in the river were safely rescued by the joint team. All the rescued persons were evacuated to a safer location.

Due to rain during morning hours several Nallahs and rivers were flooded in Pir Panjal region.

The District Administration Poonch closed schools due to heavy rain and flood in various Nallahs and rivers as precautionary measures on Tuesday. Chief Education Officer, Poonch issued an order in this connection.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rain and flood Poonch-Krishna Ghati- Mendhar road remained blocked for about four hours. The road was later cleared and traffic restored in the afternoon.
