Samoon visits GGM Sc College, calls for cashless economy

JAMMU, Dec 15: Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education Department visited G.G.M Science College today and was received by students and staff of the college. Dr. Samoon interacted with representatives of various banks who have arranged their canopies in the campus for encouraging cashless economy by mobile banking.
He discussed with the bank representatives for providing incentives to students and arrange some lectures related to banking for the students in the college. He had interactive session with the students and asked the bankers to demonstrate the students how to go for cashless transaction.
Herbal Garden of Department of Botany, G.G.M Science College comprising of various plants, herbs and shrubs of medicinal importance, was inaugurated by Dr. Samoon, Dr Mohinder Singh along with other colleagues of the Botany Department briefed the germplasm of the garden to Dr. Samoon. He appreciated the maintenance of the herbal garden. Further, he convened a meeting in the Conference Hall of G.G.M Science College for development of herbal garden in various Government Degree Colleges of Jammu province.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various departments like Horticulture, Floriculture, and Agriculture, members from IIIM and faculty members of various colleges. Departments of horticulture, floriculture were asked to help colleges for the development of herbal gardens in the colleges. Representatives from SKUAST were asked to exchange and provide medicinal and aromatic plants to various degree colleges. He asked the heads of the different colleges to provide DPR for herbal garden within one week and design course and prepare its syllabus for three year degree course within two weeks. Dr. Samoon directed Manzoor Javiad, Nodal Officer, School Herbal Garden Project, DSE, Kashmir to organize an exhibition of herbal plants on January 17, 2017 at G.G.M Science College, Jammu.

He thanked all the participants and further extended his thanks to Prof. (Dr.) Ajeet Angral, Nodal Principal G.G.M Science for arranging the meeting.  All the members of the Botany Department Prof. Sushma, Prof. Mohinder Singh, Prof. Bimla Devi, Dr. Bharati Razdan, Dr. Rohni Chib, Dr. Anuradha Pandoh, Dr. Neena Sharma, Dr. Aziz Ahmad, Dr. Neeti Chibber, Prof. Fraz Ahmad & Prof. Rahul Sharma from Bio-Technology attended the function.
