JAMMU, Nov 11: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi organized two literary programmes in Dogri, ‘Naari Chetna’ and ‘Kavi-Sandhi’, here today.
‘Naari Chetna ‘ was held at Govt College for Women, Parade wherein five prominent women poets recited their poems before a gathering, mainly consisting of women students of the college, in addition to a paper presented on ‘Women Writing in Dogri’ by Prof Veena Gupta.
Those who recited their poems, included Santosh Khajuria, Prof Shashi Pathania, Vijaya Thakur, Usha Kiran and Shakuntla Beerpuri.
Prof Hemla Aggarwal, Principle of the College, presided over the program and appreciated the efforts of Sahitya Akademi to reach out to young women students. She said this will go a long way in popularizing Dogri literature among youngsters.
Prof Lalit Mangotra, convener of Dogri Advisory Board in Sahitya Akademi, in his introductory remarks, highlighted the importance and justification of holding special program for women.
‘Kavi-Sandhi’ was held in the evening at K L Saigal Hall wherein renowned and Sahitya Akademi Awardee poet Gianeshwar read his poetry and shared his ideas with the audience.
Gianeshwar is known for his ‘Sufi’ overtones in his poetry and for his lively style of recital. His poems on one hand gave message of love and compassion for all the human beings and on the other these also exhibit the intense love which the poet feels towards the nature and life.
Santanu Gangopadhaya, Asstt Editor, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, introduced the poet. Prof Lalit Magotra, shared his observation of evolution of Gianeshwar as a poet.
Those who attended the program, included Prof Veena Gupta, Mohan Singh, Darshan Darshi, Pradyuman Singh Jandrahia, Dhyan Singh, Vijaya Thakur, family members and friends of the poet and many others.
